Because the beaver isn't just an animal; it's an ecosystem!

Category: Beaver Art

These arrived this weekend. Prompting me to ask the age old question: How much do you wish you were a child so you could solve this mystery?

As you’ll recall children will receive a TOP SECRET DOSSIER outlining the “Suspect List” and have to go to participating booths to collect all six “alibi cards” so they can solve the mystery.

Which if they solve correctly they will earn one of these generously donated ornamental magnifying glasses which they can make into a necklace if they wish and take with them.

The whole thing was planned such a LONG time ago that’s it’s lovely to think it finally gets to happen!

I told you before. Marin is used to getting what it wants. The article asking for beavers is reprinted in the sunday issue WITH a swankee cartoonist from SF Gate on the beat. Looks like the same article but watch this space.

George Russell: Negotiations for beavers at Lagunitas Creek fully engaged

Every so often the universe throws you a truly unexpected gift. You’re just sitting at home, minding no body’s business – not even your own – when this song is dropped on a podcast that a friend sends to Jeff Baldwin and he passes on to you.

You MUST play this recording. You. Just. Must.

I’m told it’s the work of Anna Bosnick and was played friday on The Scathing Aethiest to mock the ‘I’m into Jesus’ meme. I’m sure they never intended to hold the full ecological discussion it deserves. But Anna obviously read Ben’s book or spent some time admiring a beaver pond.

I would like to edit the lyrics just a little to cover the biodiversity a beaver brings and then have her play at the beaver festival. The website says she lives in New Jersey so it’s a bit of a commute, but I’m sure she’d be happy to help out.

Sound good?

The confusing part is that Anna teaches fiddle lessons and is an accomplished fiddler. And hey we had the Scottish Fiddlers at our festival for years and years and years and watched the remarkably skilled siblings grow up before our eyes. You don’t think…?

Let’s have a beautiful wednesday morning and talk about the art of Sophie Wood Brinker

Since Sophie lives in Tomales which is pretty close to occidental I’m guessing she’s had some inspiring visits from our friends at OAEC. Growing up in santa cruz and now living where she does I don’t guess she ever got to see a beaver in person, but maybe someday soon that will change,

Sophie has a BA in Peace and Global Studies from Earlham College, a Certificate in Graphic Design from UC Berkeley, and is a graduate of the Science Illustration Graduate program at Monterey State University. Through watercolor, pencil, and ink, Sophie communicates the brilliance and intricacy of the ecosystems that surround us. She currently lives in Tomales, California, on Coast Miwok land.

I think she needs an invitation to the beaver festival, don’t you?

What is wrong with me? I had grand plans for a beaver festival and a beaver mural but I never even thought about a “Beaver Park”! How silly I was and how cool would it be to have THIS at the marina.

Well lots of people in Delaware are way smarter than me, because they already made this a reality. I’m suddenly getting a very strong urge for a field trip. (more…)
