“Earlier this fall, during a brief stay in Whitehorse, Yukon literary legend Eva Holland took me on a paddle around a local lake, made unforgettable by the mind-blowing density of shoreline beaver lodges and foraging trails. These critters were putting in *work* — check out the entire aspen forest cached in that first pic. While they don’t get nearly as much attention as dams (fair enough) lodges are also keystone structures in their own right: waterfowl nest atop them, fish shelter in their submerged entrances, and muskrats even take up residence in their interiors. Pretty impressive edifices. Thanks to Eva & crew for showing me a bea-very good time!”
