I’m enjoying this series but I think they are wrong to credit the beaver with “making notches in the dam” during storms. I’m pretty sure its the increased water pressure during a storm that makes the notches.
Beavers build dams to create ponds that give them protection from predators and increase the water level to encourage new growth of the trees they like to eat. This is why beavers are a keystone species, because the wetlands they create become habitat for so many other species.
