Mostly True Facts visits beavers. I know they practice coprophagia but I’ve never heard it said that they eat waste right out of their butts – they are hardly contortionists – but other than this I suppose its good advertising. I wish he found time after saying how weird they are to mention all the TRULY AMAZING things beavers do as well.

Gosh don’t you wish you could watch Amy Hall’s art all unfold again at the festival? Maybe filmed by a professional in an ideal high place? Now seems as good a time as any to introduce you to Cristina Joy Valverde a filmaker working on a larger project about beavers who wanted to interview me and came down the day before the festival. She took this amazing stop motion by placing the camera atop Jon’s ladder on a lamp post and I’m so happy she did. You will be too.
Well it’s almost been a week since the festival. Everything has been returned to its place and we have finally finished all the transactions for the silent auction. It’s high time I get back to reporting OTHER beaver news in the world, But I’m not quite ready. I need one more day to just post these photos. I’m sure you can understand.

There was so much going on at the Beaver Festival it’s just starting to come together in my mind. The mystery of the missing salmon was a hit and children took their detecting very seriously. One little girl stopped me and asked for a pencil and paper so she could take notes in her investigation. And another little boy was so proud of his earned “spyglass” that he held it up to his little eye and said “It fit perfectly!”
Other delights of the day included a visit from Eric Robinson of San Diego who I had no idea was coming. the head of CCCRCD who introduced himself and gave me his card and said we’ll be in touch, and the very mature scout who handed out the stuffed beavers asking shyly if “they could have one too.”
But my FAVORITE hands down moment of the day was when the table was visited by a man who worked with the Nature Conservancy in Sacramento and I welcomed him and smiled and said “Do you know your last issue had an article that said beavers eat fish???” And he held his hand before his face and said “I know we are all so embarassed. We are thinking of making a tshirt that says beavers don’t eat fish!!!”
Highlight off the entire event for me. Hell I’ll even help design it.
The beaver pond spirit flags were a big hit too. Kids painted all day and Erika was beyond wonderful helping them create.
