Because the beaver isn't just an animal; it's an ecosystem!

BOO-ver!

don't fear the beaverHappy Halloween! I know everyone is busy putting the finishing touches on their child’s beaver costume but I thought I’d give you a few chuckles anyway. The first is the constant reminder that people can’t tell beavers and nutria apart. Even when the article is canadian. Well, I guess it is time for trick-o-treating. Maybe that nutria’s dressing up? It’s that old story of the couple getting married in Saskatchewan, not sure why it’s re-running in the business pages.

Now it says the photo is from wikipedia commons. It’s not Cheryl’s or the famous one we usually see. Do you suppose they checked wikipedia for actual beaver?

CaptureThis headline got my attention but it’s Long Beach MISSISSIPPI not California. Whew! That makes sense, because if there are beavers in Long Beach CA it would be quite a surprise.

Levens says, “This morning, first thing, we had the city engineer come in, and we had the public works engineer, fire chief, police chief, the mayor and myself, all meet and we’ve been meeting all morning…going over canal one, canal two, and canal three. They’ll ride the canals in the helicopter, get video footage, see if beaver dams that have been blocking things, and talk to the people who control canals one, two and three to see what to do, expanding, widening it, to keep the drainage going.”

There’s always a chance beavers are to blame, according to every public works engineer everywhere. Here’s a little something that caught my fancy yesterday. Have fun tonight!
