Because the beaver isn't just an animal; it's an ecosystem!

Author: heidi08

Heidi is a child psychologist who became an accidental beaver advocate when a family of beavers moved into the creek near her home. Now she lectures about beavers nationwide and maintains the website martinezbeavers.org/wordpress which provides resources to make this work easier for others to do.

I knew about the story of Wishpoosh creating the cascades along the pacific, but I only just heard about Kluscap and the giant beaver known as K’chi-Quabeet. The tale comes from the Wabanaki people in the area of Maine and Vermont and beyond. The Penebscot tribe is part of them and that is where Skip Lisle began his work with the beaver and developed the famed beaver deceiver. So you can imagine how revered he was among the people.

(Apparently K’chi-Quabeet had no idea the paleontologists years later would learn he couldn’t build dams. fell trees OR slap water with his tail. Silly Rodent.)

Fantastic beaver display at Earthday Sierra College celebration yesterday. Our Rocklin beaver believing friend (Laurie Rindell)  sent these amazing photos.

What a fantastic display! She even used this rendition of a full size beaver. Believe me when I saw I will find out how that came to be!

Worth A Dam naturalist Leslie Mills reported back yesterday from an excellent walk and talk with the second graders at St Catherine’s School who wanted to learn all about our beaver story. She came back bursting with enthusiasm and saying that at the end the kids were shouting: BEAVER BELIEVER!
