The flood is a flasher and grower
We wish that the water was lower!
But beaver-built lumps
Will act as speed bumps
So beaver dams make water slower.

Heidi is a child psychologist who became an accidental beaver advocate when a family of beavers moved into the creek near her home. Now she lectures about beavers nationwide and maintains the website martinezbeavers.org/wordpress which provides resources to make this work easier for others to do.
| The trout seem to be getting bolder
Each day they grow fatter and older The pond’s heavy size Makes groundwater rise So beaver ponds make water colder.

Jon tries his hand at a demonstration model for the festival. Still thinking about a recirculating pump?
By the beaver pond grass just grows greener
The frogs, birds and crickets sing keener
The dam as they built ‘er
Will act like a filter
So beaver ponds make water cleaner.
In the west we are all water’s keeper
We’ve come to fear drought like the reaper
But something saves water
For your son and daughter
And beaver ponds make water deeper
