Mark Wallner is a beaver believer in Wisconsin and the creator of Wingitwildlife, He is also the lens behind the “Humantrailcam” project which is my favorite kind of trailcam (and the kind we used in Martinez.) He posted this video yesterday of a massive beaver lodge he’s been keeping his eye on. I’m sure you will enjoy watching. Just remember that the part of the screen we can’t see – the part UNDER the water where legions of fish are attracting the attention of those mergansers and that kingfisher- is also bursting with life.
A North American Beaver noses around up on its lodge, Beavers groom each other, Canada Geese stand nearby, Red-winged Blackbirds move about, Common Merganser hens and a Belted Kingfisher find a northern USA Beaver lodge to be a great place to feed from. One gets bitten by an annoyed Canada Goose on the lodge. A Beaver swims by. Red-winged Blackbirds fly by. Save our Beavers and their works for the utmost biodiversity. We need more Beavers. For more about Beavers, how they differ from Muskrats and how they help other species,
Such a big lodge! You know it gets VERY cold there and there are plenty of predators to keep out. It reminded me of this illustration from Sara Gilman in Ben’s book.
Oh and happy Easter for those who rise again this morning. And to all those who don’t.
