December 23rd – 6:00PM – Worth A Dam members were down at the secondary dam, as this was the last place beavers were seen, and we were trying to locate them. We had no luck in beaver sightings but did see a green heron with a fish in his mouth. Visitors from Modesto came to the sight to see if they could see any beavers. They were lucky enough to see one of the adult beavers and a kit at the main dam. By the time we got to the that dam, we saw just one kit before deciding we were cold and tired.HP,JR,LB
December 17th – 6:30 – Worth A Dam was down at the dam sites checking them to see if they were holding up with the rains. At the primary dam, the water was cresting over and the secondary dam was holding. A beaver was sighted at the secondary dam but it could not be seen well enough to see if it was a kit or GQ. HP, JR
December 11th – It was a very slow night for viewing beavers. An otter was seen, we think, as it was very dark. One visitor came down from Sebastopol, in hopes to see a beaver, but he left disappointed just before one of the kits came out about 7:10PM. It seems this time of the year it is very hard to say just when the beavers will be out. It takes a lot of patience andalso the ability to deal with the cold weather. We could hear the fog horns in the distance and it was a soothing sound. HP, JR, LB and visitor
December 10th – Beaver watchers are still coming down to the main dam even though the weather has been so wet and cold. Last night two kits were seen and there was a surprise visit from an otter. The day of the 3rd grade field trip, an otter was seen by one of the members of Worth A Dam, so guess it is still around.HP,CR,JR
December 4th – 5:45-7:10 – One brave beaver watcher was out early and did see one of the adult beavers swimming along. It was hard to see who it was but could tell it was an adult by its size and its position in the water. An owl was also seen flying by. Later when I came down to check things out, we didn’t see any beavers right away but were lucky to see six of the cutest baby raccoons along with mom trying to sneak by us to cross over to the other side of the bank. We sat very still as they all passed by. Some time later they all came back and we watched the raccoon parade go by again. Just before we decided to leave, the littlest beaver came swimming by and was heading for the lodge. It was a very slow night for beaver watching and don’t know if they are changing their schedule again or not. Maybe the music from the snow slide on main street threw them off.HP, LB
December 1st – Early evening – Got a report of two students, who were on the field trip earlier in the day, came down to the main dam in hopes of seeing some beavers. They were lucky to see two kits and one of the adult beavers. They were so happy.
