At the 2023 beaver festival, our artists helped children watercolor to create their idea of what the inside of a beaver lodge might be like. A beaver lodge has an entrance underwater but is dry and comfortable inside. Martinez children made them super cozy with lights and bunkbeds!
For this activity we gave each child some watercolor paper and helped them rip it into a lodge using a deckled edge technique. (So they can make it themselves, just like a beaver.) You can use a submerged cup in water to show how the entrance can be under water while the top of the cup stays dry and protected.
This year the preschool magazine “Ladybug” showed some their idea of snug baby beavers inside the lodge.
