Jeff is an environmental geographer, and has been on faculty at Sonoma State University since 2008. His research focuses upon the co-production of landscapes and enlivened value, specifically by mangrove, coral reef, and human communities in the Caribbean, and by beaver and their associated communities in the American West.

Heidi is the founder and president of Worth A Dam which successfully advocated for the beavers in Martinez in 2007. Drawing on her background in child psychology, she focused support for the beavers, engaged the community, organized a decade of annual beaver festivals, and now helps other cities learn why and how live with this important animal.

Jackie Van Der Hout is the education and outreach director of the California Urban Streams Partnership. She has a background in environmental science and community organizing and is passionate about building relationships between humans and their environments.

Brock is co-founder of the Sonoma County based Occidental Arts and Ecology Center where he co-directs the WATER Institute’s Bring Back the Beaver Campaign . A wildlife biologist & watershed ecologist he was given Salmonid Restoration Federation’s coveted Golden Pipe Award in 2012: “ for his leading role as a proponent of “working with beavers” to restore native salmon habitat.
